Very few people would believe that in USA it is possible to make money without any investment of time, efforts or money. A very common saying here is “there is nothing like free lunch”. In other words, any enterprise that offers you something of value “free” has some kind of catch. Long commitments, or introducing some members or customers who will pay for the services.
I also had that impression, but I have always been attracted for the “free” stuff, so I explored the promotional stuff. Once I was travelling on a local flight operated by Delta, I was approached by one of the hostess with an offer to apply for an American Express credit card that has no annual fee, but offered a bonus “sky miles” of 50,000 miles. But this offer had a catch. I will earn 1 mile for each dollar of expenses charged on the card, but if I can charge $3,000 in 3 months, I will get that bonus. I thought for a moment, will I be able to fulfill this commitment, but completed the application, after convincing myself, that even if I may not be able to make enough purchases to qualify for the bonus, I have nothing to loose.
I completed the commitment, got the bonus miles, and then continued to accumulate miles for about an year, and when I had over 120,000 miles, I was able to use the 120,000 miles to buy a return ticket on Delta Airlines from Atlanta to Dubai (normal cost was over $1,200) for free. I just paid $110 for Airport Taxes. You might say, that I gave enough business to American Express in terms of usage charges that merchants paid to American Express, but I did not pay any extra cents for making the purchases, which I would have done for the family. Some people use their debit card for all purchases or pay cash. I hardly use cash or debit card for purchases.
