Wisdom

There is no correct answer to this question, which means that different people will define this word in different ways. Many years ago, I bought a book that has no writer’s name, and it is titled 100 Ways to Freedom. This book must have been compiled by a group of writers who selected some famous quotations and modified some quotations to give a new meaning to the word Wisdom. Some quotations are from famous personalities, while some are just random choices, and some are anonymous.

I will use some quotations to emphasize my viewpoints and will modify some sentences from the book to give it a new meaning.

At the outset I will quote the brief introduction from that book that says “Throughout our lives, we seek wisdom—knowledge of how to understand and act for the best. As we get older, we hope to use our intelligence and experience to help us deal with the problems we encounter. Sometimes we fail; sometimes we succeed. But whatever happens, we know we must keep learning, whether from others or from ourselves”. The introduction ends with this disclaimer, saying “It [the book] can’t guarantee to make you wise, but it will make you think, and hopefully help you on your way.” So, this will be also my disclaimer, but I will add that my blog with many different topics will make you more knowledgeable and help become a better person for your own self and for people around you, because you can share your knowledge and even if one topic makes any change in your life and philosophy then I will consider my efforts and time as not rambler’s views but it had some intrinsic value. Keep reading.

I will quote a famous saying of Albert Einstein the well-known scientist who said about himself that “the more I read, the more I know that how less I know”. If he said that about himself, then how about you or at least about. I can say that I know nothing or not enough to say that I am wise man and have lot of wisdom.

To become wise, you must learn from books, people around you, your surroundings and mother nature. Our current media, including social media, has so much disinformation and fake propaganda that can easily make a wiser and knowledgeable person a shallow, misinformed and biased person. So, the first piece of advice to you, do depend on only one source for getting information and do not believe everything that you see, read or hear, as changing the context, facts, voices and images is becoming easier and easier than it was before.

Now I will quote from the same book some anonymous sayings on what is considered as “wisdom”:

  • A fool may talk; a wise man speaks.
  • Without wisdom, wealth is worthless.
  • Wisdom lends the highest authority to action.
  • The biggest fool is the person who boasts of their wisdom.
  • For the wise, learning never stops.
