Ban Assault Weapons

On Tuesday May 17 a gun man killed 19 children and 2 teachers in Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. It is one of the deadliest mass shootings in USA, which has more guns than cars than any country in the world. Only in USA a anybody who is 18-year-old and has not been convicted with a felony can buy gun legally without any background check. That is exactly what happened, the killer bought not any gun but AR-15 Assault Rifle that is designed to be used by the Armed Forces, on his 18th birthday. He also bought more than a dozen magazines that had 20 bullets. If the killer would not have been killed by the security officer, he could have killed more than 200 children.

There is more safety regulations for car seats, baby formulas and for a number of items that can cause potential harm to kids, but there are no laws to protect children from gun violence. This is not only pathetic but really insane. Mostly Republican Senators are against any regulations or laws that can restrict gun access to 18-year-old person who may become a mass murder with or without any medical condition. The public is always surprised to learn after such mass shootings occur that the law enforcement agencies have either not paid any attention to such social media posts from potential mass murderers or psychological conditions/history was not properly reported by the schools/institutions or the family citing privacy issues.

Many of these mass shootings could have been prevented if proper actions were taken by the authorities. US Government is spending billions of dollars to just maintain thousands of armed personnel in more than dozens of bases all over the world and recently used more than 40 billion dollars to help Ukrain fight against Russian invasion, but cannot provide safety to its own citizens, especially children who are being killed all over the country.

How many more mass shootings will wake up the law makers to pass gun safety laws to protect the citizens? It is time to start lobbying against NRA and all those who are against gun laws.

  1. In Texas, the law is that all people regardless of age is required to do a federal background check to purchase a gun of any caliber. There is a false story going around that you do not need a background check for purchasing a gun; that was proven to be False.
